A word about our Open Crowns… Our #151 and #152 are direct duplicates of original vintage #51 and #52 blocks that we own. Our standard height is set at 6” (152mm) tall for a 22 13/16” (58cm) Crown. Smaller circumference blocks will be incrementally shorter and larger circumference blocks will be incrementally taller to keep aspect ratios correct across the range and to ensure that if, for example, you were to block a small 56cm crown, it would look identical, to say, a 61cm hat from the same shape but larger Open Crown. Thus, making the same hat across the size range without distortion. If we did not stick to the rules of aspect ratio, the shape of your hats would not be uniform across the range. Available with Pouncing Base or with One or Two finger holes. |

Regarding Crown Heights.... As standard, our crown heights increase incrementally across a size range, ensuring that the crown shape remains the same throughout a size run. This means that you could make the identical hat in both a 55 cm, through to a 65 cm crown size. For example: 58 cm = 152 mm tall (6") - crowns smaller than this will be incrementally shorter and crowns larger will be incrementally taller. If we were to keep the same height throughout the range, your smallest crowns would look too tall and skinny and your largest crowns would look to short and squat, thus, making your hats look funny! We can make them a single height across a range... but we don't recommend it and it will only be done as a special request. |
